Moving to San Diego

August 2022 marked a significant milestone in my life as I embarked on a journey of independence, leaving behind the familiarity of home to pursue my dreams in Southern California. Being the first in my family to venture far from home, the decision to move to San Diego was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Yet, the allure of the sun-kissed beaches and the vibrant atmosphere of this coastal city beckoned to me, reminding me of the cherished memories from childhood trips. With a sense of determination and excitement, I committed to San Diego State University, knowing that this new chapter held boundless opportunities for personal and academic growth.

Arriving in San Diego, I found myself in a sea of unfamiliar faces, navigating the transition to my new life with only a handful of acquaintances. Despite the initial apprehension, I harbored a quiet confidence that with time, I would find my place within this bustling community. As classes commenced and I delved into the business program, my passion for learning was reignited, fueling my drive to excel academically. Through involvement in various business organizations, doors to internships and networking opportunities swung open, further enriching my collegiate experience.

Beyond the confines of academia, I sought to immerse myself in the vibrant tapestry of San Diego’s culture. Forming meaningful connections with fellow members of my church, I discovered a sense of belonging and support that transcended the miles from home. Exploring the city’s diverse offerings became a cherished pastime, from leisurely days spent lounging on sandy shores to exhilarating hikes in the nearby mountains. Each adventure brought with it a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of experiences that San Diego had to offer.

Amidst the whirlwind of new experiences, I discovered a newfound passion for fitness and recreation. Embracing an active lifestyle, I frequented the gym and eagerly participated in intramural basketball games, relishing the camaraderie of team sports. These moments of shared triumph and camaraderie served as reminders of the importance of balance and self-care amidst the rigors of academic life.

As I stand on the cusp of graduation, reflecting on the journey that brought me to this moment, I am filled with a profound sense of pride and gratitude.
